Bitten Word readers cooked every recipe in the September 2013 Bon Appétit magazine. Here's their take on a Hey Hey, My My cocktail.

Karen: This would make a wonderful party drink! It's sweet but not cloying. The only change I might make would be to find less sweet grapefruit juice (I used red grapefruit juice). The color would be festive for the upcoming holiday season.

Emily: Could not find Aperol or Sherry in my small town or in the large city an hour away. Gave up and had a beer. That's rural living for ya!

Kristine: Look, I live in a middle-class neighborhood on the south side of Chicago; neither my local Jewel nor liquor store had heard of Aperol or fino sherry, much less had it in stock. So I bought what I assumed were the generic approximations - an orange liqueur and a $10 sherry. This was also my first attempt to make a honey simple syrup. I would skip the honey next time; it overpowered the fruit, and my kitchen hasn't been this sticky since the Homemade Marshmallow Incident of 2009. The fresh lemon and grapefruit were good, but the combination was sickly sweet. Next time, I'll just make greyhounds, and avoid the cheap substitutes. Also, this gave me diabetes.

I-Mei: So this was a very easy recipe, though the nuclear orange color of the Aperol definitely worried me a little (we're talking nuclear Simpsons-like orange), but it was delicious! I couldn't really taste the alcohol, though as one of those majority Asians I do have the red face to attest to the fact that alcohol was present. A nice, fruity little cocktail: not as dry as I expected, but perhaps I OD'd on the honey simple syrup (it might have been drier if I had substituted regular simple syrup).

Anne: This is delicious and refreshing! And such a pretty color. The taste is plenty sweet enough with only half the listed honey simple syrup. Enjoy!

Melissa: Beautiful in color, Hey Hey, My My is a refreshing, slightly sweet, not overly alcoholic tasting cocktail. Definitely use fresh grapefruit and lemon juice.
