Happy (nearly) summer, Bittens! We hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend -- and we hope you're as excited as we are for a summer full of good times and great food.
But first, we wanted to share some of our photos from this spring. We had a terrific spring -- some nice travel, a few lovely weddings, and some memorable meals. Many of these photos are from our Instagram feed. (If you're not following us over there, come on and join the fun!)
You may remember this photo from our trip to New Orleans. You can read way more about what we did on that trip -- by which we mean eating and drinking -- in this post.
Spring came so late this year! And it was so cool and gloomy. We took lots of photos of pretty bright colors to make us feel better, whether it was a row of books in a New Orleans bookstore, a Morris Louis painting at the National Gallery of Art, a chalk drawing on the street in our neighborhood, or some technicolor carrots.
We both had a fair amount of travel this spring. In March, Zach found himself in Memphis for one day, for an event. He was only in town for about 18 hours, but he still managed to have lunch at Gus's, which is probably our favorite fried chicken of all time. And if you can't make it to Memphis, you can make Gus's chicken at home!
We saw these beautiful robin's eggs in a nest at the Pleasant Hill Shaker village outside Lexington, Ky. Did you read about our weekend in Lexington? It was filled with drinking bourbon, eating bisbuits, and betting on horses.
BASIL! This is from the CSA farm we belong to. One day in early May, we went there for the farm's spring kick-off event. The produce is late this year, due to the long, cool spring. But this basil was already a-rockin'.
We went to Austin, Texas, for a wedding! We ate BBQ in Lockhart! Clay stood in front of a mural on SoCo! Zach wore yellow pants to the wedding! We ate tacos! Clay stood in front of another mural on SoCo!
Here's a decidedly less green treat we enjoyed in Tennessee: Biscuits slathered in chocolate gravy. So good. Get our chocolate gravy recipe here!
We had an amazing spring, and we hope you did too. And we're so excited for summer!
What are you most looking forward to this summer?
